The heatmap-tool gap

Data in one tab. Edits in another.

Standalone heatmap tools were built for analysts. You see the data, then leave the tool to fix the page. Most marketers never make the round trip.

No. 01

Another subscription. Another tab.

Hotjar starts at $32/mo on top of your page builder. Crazy Egg, $29-$249/mo. Microsoft Clarity is free but lives outside your editor. Three tools to see one page.

No. 02

Tracking scripts and tag managers.

Install JavaScript. Add it via GTM. Verify it fires. Wait for sample size. By the time you have data, the campaign is over.

No. 03

You see the click. Now what?

Standalone tools end at the report. Marketing teams need the next step: change the headline, move the CTA, re-test. That step lives in your page editor, not in Hotjar.

No. 04 / What's tracked

Three heatmaps. One page.

No. 01 / Click maps

Where they actually clicked.

Viewport-aware tracking shows every click and tap, by section. The dead buttons. The links you didn't know were links. The CTA people miss.

No. 02 / Scroll depth

How far they got.

Breakpoints at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. See exactly how many visitors scrolled past your fold, your form, your pricing section.

No. 03 / Attention maps

Where they stayed.

Mouse movement and hover duration on desktop. The sections that hold attention, the ones that get skipped, the headline that earns the read.

No. 05 / Inside the editor

The heatmap is in the page.

Standalone tools show heatmap on a screenshot. Leadpages overlays the data on the live editor. You see the cold CTA, click it, change the copy, retest. No tool switching, no exporting screenshots, no waiting on the analyst.

  • Built into every published page. No script tags, no tag manager, no third-party JS.
  • Lightweight tracker. Batched event sending via sendBeacon. No measurable page-load impact.
  • Mobile, tablet, desktop. Click and scroll on every device. Attention map on desktop.
  • Data retention. 24 months on Optimize. 36 months on Scale.

No. 08 / FAQ

Heatmap questions.

Which plan includes heatmaps?

Click heatmaps, scroll depth tracking, and attention maps are included on the Optimize plan ($199/mo) and Scale plan ($399/mo). The Grow plan ($99/mo) includes A/B testing, Dynamic Text Replacement, and analytics, but not heatmaps. Your 7-day free trial gives full access to Optimize features so you can see the heatmap on day one.

How is this different from Hotjar, Crazy Egg, or Microsoft Clarity?

The heatmap data is comparable. The difference is the workflow. Hotjar, Crazy Egg, and Clarity are standalone tools: data lives in one tab, the page edit happens in another. Leadpages overlays the heatmap directly on the live editor. You see the cold CTA, click it, change the copy, hit publish. Same window, same platform, same bill.

Do I need to install a tracking script?

No. Tracking is built into every published page on the Optimize tier. No JavaScript snippets, no tag manager configuration, no third-party scripts to maintain.

Does the tracking slow down my pages?

The tracker is lightweight and non-blocking. It uses batched event sending via navigator.sendBeacon, so there's no measurable impact on page-load time or visitor experience. We measured zero Lighthouse score change with tracking on.

Does the attention heatmap work on mobile?

Attention maps use mouse movement and hover, so they're available on desktop views. Click heatmaps and scroll depth tracking are available on mobile, tablet, and desktop.

How long is heatmap data retained?

Optimize: 24 months. Scale: 36 months plus data warehouse export to BigQuery or S3. That's enough history to see seasonal patterns, not just last week's run.
